- Management tracks its own estimate ofBrookfield Corporation is hard to value from the outside. It is a parent company that owns a majority stake in a public asset manager, an insurance arm, and a group of operating businesses. Transactions run between all of these pieces. This complexity is the main reason the market prices the stock below management's own estimate of its worth, called "plan value." This estimate was $67 per share asA second reason is that Brookfield's official profit, reported under IFRS accounting rules, swings much more than the distributable earnings figure management prefers. Investors who focus on reported net income see a weaker, choppier business than the cash results suggest. The stock trades near $37It also needs to actually simplify the structure, far below this estimateas intended. The underlying businesses keep growing. Fee-bearing capital reached $672 billion, up 19% from a year earlier, and per-share distributable earnings grew 15% in the same quarter. Brookfield is also investing tens of billions of dollars in AI data centers and nuclear power, two areas with strong long-term demand. If Brookfield keeps growingneed to keep compounding near its plannedtheir recent pace, the market may start to trust management. Management's own plan-value estimate moretarget, already pushed back one year to 2031, cannot slip again. Because Brookfield's multi-layer structure is complexunlikely to disappear even after the merger, its official IFRS profit is far lower and choppier than its distributable earningspart of this discount may persist beyond 2031, and management already pushed its $140not just until the next plan-value target back by one yearmilestone.
